SAN PEDRO, THE MIRACLE HEALER
By Ross Heaven

The Western world is increasingly familiar with ayahuasca, the visionary brew and plant doctor of Amazonian shamans, thanks to celebrities like Sting and Madonna who have drunk it and television programmes like Bruce Parrys Tribe and Amazon, which showed the presenter drinking ayahuasca in the jungles of Peru, during which he experienced, he said, some of the most profound insights of his life.

Scientific studies carried out by Western doctors have also demonstrated the effectiveness of ayahuasca in curing illnesses that orthodox medicine finds it hard to address. Especially impressive is its ability to help people overcome drug and alcohol addictions, with a success rate of 70% through the use of ayahuasca alone.

Less well-known, however - but no less effective - is another of Perus visionary healing plants: San Pedro. Like ayahuasca, it has been drunk for thousands of years in shamanic healing ceremonies and through it there have been a number of ‘miracle cures to a variety of illnesses, including cancer, diabetes and paralysis, as well as emotional and psychological problems such as depression and grief.

So what is San Pedro, how does it work and how might it be helpful for us in dealing with the issues we face?

I first drank San Pedro in 1998 during a trip to Peru ostensibly to work with ayahuasca. A chance meeting with a shaman, however, led to an opportunity to drink San Pedro as well and I found myself in ceremony.

I have to say that there were no great visions or divine revelations for me that first time. Instead of healing body and soul, in fact, the brew made me physically sick! I later discovered that the potion I was given was very weak and the shaman lacked the power and intent to make San Pedro work. Still, there was something about the plant that interested me and during other trips to Peru I have been drawn back to it again until I finally found a shaman who knew how to make its true power and genius shine.

This is the shaman I now work with when I take groups to the Andes for my Cactus of Vision programme to explore methods of Andean healing. Her name is La Gringa, which means the outsider woman.

But first things first. What is San Pedro?

Physically, it is a tall mescaline cactus (Trichocereus pachanoi) which grows at high altitudes in Peru. It has other names too, including El Remedio: The Remedy, which refers to its healing and visionary powers which the shamans believe enable us let go of the illusions of the world. For ‘visionary we might also say ‘hallucinogenic, although I am not fond of the word as it implies that what we see is imagined not real. There is an example later in this article, however, which suggests that what San Pedro shows us is absolutely real.

The name San Pedro also embodies these qualities because the Biblical Saint Peter is the holder of the keys to Heaven and he - and the cactus - both open a gateway for us into another dimension where we experience the world as divine.

The earliest archaeological evidence for its use as a healing sacrament is a stone carving of a San Pedro shaman found at the Jaguar Temple in northern Peru, which is almost 3,500 years old and proves that, despite its name, San Pedro has been around longer than the Saint himself. Textiles from the same region and period depict the cactus with jaguars and hummingbirds, two of its guardian spirits, with stylised spirals representing the visionary experience.

In contrast to ayahuasca, however, little has been written about San Pedro and no research has been conducted into its effects. We know that it was used to heal illnesses, to see the future through its prophetic and divinatory qualities, to overcome sorcery or saladera (an inexplicable run of ‘bad luck), to ensure success in ones ventures and to rekindle love and enthusiasm for life. We also have an account from the ethnobotanist, Richard Evans Schultes, in his book, Plants of the Gods, of how San Pedro works.

It is ‘in tune with beings that have supernatural powers, he writes. ‘Participants [in ceremonies] are ‘set free from matter and engage in flight through cosmic regions transported across time and distance in a rapid and safe fashion.

He quotes an Andean shaman who describes its effects: First, a dreamy state then great visions, a clearing of all the faculties then detachment, a type of visual force inclusive of the sixth sense, the telepathic state of transmitting oneself across time and matter, like a removal of thoughts to a distant dimension.

That, however, is more-or-less it.

I put this dirth of information to La Gringa during one of my trips to Peru and asked her to describe the plant. It is a master teacher, she said. It helps us heal, grow, learn and awaken, so we reach higher states of consciousness. I have been blessed to have experienced many miracles: people being cured of all sorts of illnesses just by drinking this plant.

We also use it to reconnect and to realise that there is no separation between us, the Earth, and the Sky. We are all one. It therefore teaches us to live in balance and harmony, compassion and understanding, and how to love, respect, and honour all things. The day you meet San Pedro your life is changed forever always for the better.

In La Gringas view San Pedro heals by fundamentally changing our perception of reality - our belief in what is real and possible for us - so we understand our true power and the healing abilities we have. It shows us reality as it actually is, not how we think it is, she says. It changes what we think of as real so we see the power we humans have: we can manifest whatever we choose - if we believe we can.

With new beliefs we can heal ourselves of anything since all illness, shamanically-speaking, arises from self-perception. Illness is, in this sense, psychosomatic: we create ill-health because of how we think and feel about ourselves and the world around us - which means we can un-create it too by simply changing our minds as a result of our San Pedro experiences.

There is another sense though in which San Pedro gives us a new perspective on what is real. La Gringa offers an example from when she was first working with San Pedro and had an experience which overturned everything I thought I knew.

In her visions, out in the mountains, a stairway of light appeared on a nearby hill. Assuming it was a hallucination - a trick of her mind - she called her shaman to help interpret its meaning.

There is nothing to interpret, he shrugged. It is a stairway of light. You mean you see it too? she asked.

Of course, he said. Take a photograph if you dont believe it is there.

She thought he was crazy, of course. How can you photograph a vision, something just in your head? But she took the picture anyway and when she later got it developed, there it was: the stairway of light, just as shed seen it. She called her shaman again and he came over to look at the photo.

s what Ive been trying to tell you! he said. These things exist. San Pedro opens your eyes to what is already there!

The photograph she took that day is reproduced in my book, The Hummingbirds Journey to God (O Books, 2009), the first to be written entirely about San Pedro healing.

With that experience - and there have been many others - San Pedro taught me to believe, she says. Before it I used to walk through this world asleep. Now I notice everything and have a new respect for the Earth, for myself and others.

This new sense of respect is consistent among all of the participants I have worked with. Simon, a businessman from Gibraltar, put it this way: San Pedro showed me just how beautiful life is. I had a sense of completion, like I had healed everything that needed to be healed. I am so grateful for the insights it gave me.

Tracie, a drug counsellor from Australia says: San Pedro was life-changing. I felt peace and acceptance and an overwhelming sense of belonging to the earth and the importance of every curve of the mountains, every stone and blade of grass; all part of the same incredible tableau and all of equal importance. Through the eyes of San Pedro the world is an exceptionally beautiful place and I can bring the beauty of the world to mind - and into reality - by just remembering the experience.

Jamie, a carer from America, was overcome with tears of joy and gratitude for my ancestors for bringing me into this world, for giving me this beautiful opportunity to be here under this sky, with these birds and gently swaying trees, for making my life so beautiful and delivering me to this place where I arrived in full knowledge and love of myself.

There is something about the experience that lingers too. It is not just a momentary ‘drug trip but an encounter with the divine and with ourselves that really can change lives.

It was the most powerful, profound experience of my life, says Donna, a teacher from the UK. I became energy, the breath of life, infinite and eternal love. I now dedicate my life to honour and integrity and accept my path rather than trying to dictate it.

Kathryn, an addictions counsellor, says something similar: I feel changed, not coming down from the mind and heart-opening experience at all the lessons are ever-clearer as I share them with others. I was stretched way beyond where I thought I could go - and enjoyed it!

Other accounts are even more direct and succinct. This experience will never leave me! says Kane, an American author. I experienced all the love I have ever known in my life. Now I know that love is all that matters, says Marianne, a South American healer. And, according to Michael, an American sports coach: The message of San Pedro was clear: I create the reality I want. Anything seemed possible. I was transformed and began to create what I desired.

These sound like spiritual or emotional changes, but San Pedro can also heal very physical problems. One person La Gringa treated, for example, was a woman whose husband had died a few years before. Then, just three months later, her son was murdered. She was shattered. Her world fell apart and she had a stroke which paralysed her arm and led to the onset of diabetes.

After ineffective treatments from doctors in South Africa, where she lived, she decided to try San Pedro. I gave her the tiniest amount, says La Gringa, then she lay in my arms and cried her heart out for five hours. That is a good description of what happened actually, because, through the eyes of San Pedro, I saw strands of energy coming from her heart and circling her arm like a tourniquet. I began pulling them out and throwing them away.

The next morning there was a miracle. Her arm had regained all movement and, when she was tested, her diabetes had gone too. I asked her later about her San Pedro experience and she said she had felt a lot of pain in her heart, which is where I had seen the energy of grief that was binding her. So as well as curing her physical problems San Pedro showed her why she had them: because of the emotional distress she had been unable to let go of.

What I learned through this is that illness is not a ‘thing that is in us; it is not ‘diabetes or ‘a stroke it is a belief we carry: that we must mourn for those we have lost, for example - or for ourselves - through pain or disability that makes our suffering visible. Illness is a thoughtform; a negative pattern we hold on to. San Pedro shows us this thoughtform; then, the next time it arises, we can make a conscious choice to think and act differently.

Another example is David, a young man who moved to Peru after his divorce and then found lumps in his body. He just sort of knew they were cancerous. He visited a specialist in one of Perus hospitals and a lump was removed for analysis. It turned out that it was, indeed, cancerous, and he was recommended for chemotherapy with the proviso that he should expect only limited success.

I had no money for treatment and, given the prognosis, there didnt seem much point anyway. I resisted San Pedro as an alternative, though, because I didnt believe in plants or spirits.

A friend of mine knew some shamans, however, and without telling me, arranged a healing for me at his house. I wasnt there but they drank San Pedro and sent me prayers for good health. I found out later that the energy was so strong at that ceremony that every electrical socket blew in the house when they sent their good wishes to me. The shaman said it was a sign that the energy causing my cancer had also unblocked and my tumours were gone.

The next day I visited the hospital to see how much chemo I was going to need. The consultant made more tests and said the results were strange: there was a ‘signature of cancer in my platelets but no lumps in my body anymore and so no need for treatment.

A few weeks later my friend confessed to the healing and I agreed to take part in another ceremony. Not long into it I experienced tremendous pain, like my heart was breaking in two. I stood up and started to vomit.

What I threw up I can only describe as unearthly. It looked like wafers of glass which were rock hard and had bubbles of air inside them. They were completely solid and transparent. I could pick them up and look through them. I asked the shaman what they were.

They are energy which was stuck inside you, he said. They have been blocking your heart for years so you could not love life and were inclined towards death. Now they are out and you are free of cancer. I tried to stay sceptical but he was right. I have been well for the last nine years and was tested a year ago and I was totally clear.

What went through my mind when I threw up that glass was my rage over my divorce. I dont know if emotions like that cause cancer but I am more open-minded now and from that day forwards I have never had a problem. I am much happier, more relaxed and no longer angry. I have a new direction in life.

San Pedro, again, showed David why he had cancer and told him he had a choice: in blunt terms that he could die or change his mind. He decided not to be angry or have cancer anymore because he realised how precious life was when seen through San Pedros eyes.

This plant offers us soul retrieval - or, rather, life retrieval, says La Gringa. We hold our negative beliefs within our bodies where they manifest as physical problems, so, at the same time, our good energies are blocked and the fullness of our souls is not expressed. Parts of us stay buried. San Pedro removes our negative beliefs so the positive ones shine through - and then we heal ourselves.

Sour Face Ann,
With your chin in your hand,
Havent you ever been pleased?
You used to complain
That you had no fur coat,
And now you complain of the fleas.
(Shel Silverstein, A Light in the Attic, surface 91)

Call me Sour Face Eve, why dont you? Because Ive spent the first 5 weeks of that blog whining about not vitality able to even TRY to get preggers, and now that I am on an cycle, Im miserable. Thats appreciation for you, isnt it?Yeah, Im a real ice-cream-with-sprinkles-on-top kinda girl today. And I also forgot how to properly notate, since its superseded about 10 years since I have written a paper. So, I did the best I could with the mental resources I have left, which are not many. Im on Clomid for Petes sake!
Now, if youre one of those women who took Clomid and had some easy-peasy, symptom-unpaid, chocolate falling from the sky wisdom, well I guess bully for you. That has not been the case for me. And I suppose its mean spirited and of me to wish Clomid horribleness on everyone. But here is that truth of the matter: Clomid renders one incapable to be the chap in any disposed situation.
Norethindrone (my cyst-buster drug, which was a crock) made me grouchy. Clomid makes me certifiable. Im not sure if the mood swings are worse or the hot flashes. Yesterday, for the first instance in almost 7 weeks I actually felt in an mood, like lifes got a million promises for you, just wait and see kinda I opened the window and blue bird actually landed on my finger and started to whistle. Anyway, that is Clomids sneaky duplicity, making you feel all Mary Poppins dispassionate to sweep the carpet out from beneath your feet and have you ticked thatyour husbandempty coffee cup that you attempted to throw away, only to be rescued by your husband because he promised to clean the kitchen, is STILL on the kitchen counter 2 hours later. Yup, I can say from personal doing that Clomid does not like this situation. Clomid gets mad and throws a fit.
Clomid also doesnt congeneric when 2 year olds throw a perfectly put away set of flash cards all over the floor right before bedtime or when a dog persistently attempts to lick your face and you protest after seeing where the dogs tongue was but a mere 10 seconds before. Clomid gets angry.
Now, before you feel the need to call into question my Clomid-influenced parenting decisions, Ill reel off you that theres no WAY Im gonna go all Mommy Dearest on my son, I promise I won Besides, he doesnt even have wire hangers in his room. I will not take out my Clomid craziness on my son, which is good in theory. However, in convenance, this dark-side resistance leaves me little to no resources left for my husband. Unfortunately, he gets pure unadulterated Clomid insanity.
Im gonna get a white tee-shirt and write that in sizable letters with a Sharpie:Sorry, Honey. The Clomid made me do it.And wear it for the next month. Ill probably have to get a bunch of them, though, because I sweat so much with Clomid hot-flashes last night, that I had to change shirts about half-way through. Ugh.
I HATE Clomid hot-flashes. If youve never had one, this is the best way to explain it: picture yourself about 6 years old, and its really cold outside and youre going to play in the snow, so your mom (being a good and wonderful mother) bundles every stinking exposed part of your body with multiple layers of scarves, mittens, snow pants, hats, hoods, etc. And youre standing there about to go outside to the fair winter glory awaiting you, when your mom gets a phone yawpfrom your needy grandma. And youre standing there, completely unable to move freely or even untangle yourself from the well-built shield of winter-wear, and you create to get hot. you say, s go! But she doesnt pick up you because your voice is so incredibly muffled by the lousy with layers of scarves coiled around your neck and mouth. And shes disappeared completely now into the kitchen, and all you can think about is how your insides are about to cook and your mom is going to jewel you dead on the floor, a giant cooked winter sausage. And so you throw yourself on the floor and bawl out of sheer desperation and will to live.
Yep, thats a hot flash.
I had about 6 big ones last night. That was some Valuable sleeping, I report you. It was sort of jibing having a horribly high fever out-of-doors the sore throat/cough/runny nose stuff. I would lay foundation for out extremely cold and curl up to keep my toes and hands warm, next I would give in to the coldness, cover myself with an extra blanket, fall peacefully asleep only to wake up sweating like Id dйmodй running a marathon (or jogging encompassing the block, Im totally out of shape) and so hot that I started yelling for my mommy to get off the phone and help me.
Oh, the joys of Clomid.
I guess that in theory Clomid craziness is worth it. I mean, if I get a BFP Ill definitely say it was. But I dont buy that a BFP is in the cards for me that month. BetterBe (my friendly cyst) has been taunting me the former few days as well, so Im preparing myself to have that cycle canceled when I go to the RE next Monday. Honestly, I just feel sorry for whichever nurse chooses the short straw and has to TELL me that my cycle is canceled, because no matter what Ive said about myself, the first rule of dealing with Clomid-induced-insanity is that what might be true at any prone time for the inflicted may not be true at another time. I guess one could argue thats ALL women, but Clomidified women are compatible all those terrible, stereotypical PMS jokes times 1,000!
Maybe I should wear my, Sorry Honey. The Clomid made me do it, tee-shirt to my appointment.
Yep, now THAT sounds equivalent a plan Sour Face Eve can alive with.

There has long dated concern that the ovulation-stimulating and ovulation-regulating drugs used to treat infertility raise ovarian cancer risk. Several small studies conducted in the 1990s suggested that they do, but more recent studies failed to show an association.
Now the largest, lion's share rigorously designed trial ever to address the question shows no convincing association between fertility drug use and ovarian cancer.
Women in the study were followed for an average of 16 years after treatment. Researchers say longer follow up is needed to rule out a strong link between the fertility drugs they took and ovarian cancer.
Their average age at follow-up was just 47, and the peak age for ovarian cancer is the early 60s.
But ahead researcher Allan Jensen, PhD, of the Danish Cancer Society, tells WebMD that the new findings should be viewed as reassuring.
If there were a strong association we would definitely suspect to see it by now, and we don he says. But we will certainly abide to follow these women.
Fertility Drugs, Ovarian Cancer
Jensen and colleagues reviewed the medical records of 54,362 infertile women treated at fertility clinics in Denmark between 1963 and 1998. During follow-up, 156 of the women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
After adjusting for risk factors associated with the cancer, the researchers examined the impact of four mismated fertility drugs on ovarian cancer risk: clomifene citrate (Clomid, Serophene); gonadotropins; human chorionic gonadotropin; and gonadotropin-releasing hormone.
The found no overall increased risk for the cancer joint to use of any of the fertility drugs.
In addition, no treatment-related exaggeration in risk was seen among women who had undergone 10 or more treatment cycles and women who never became pregnant two groups that have been believed to be especially vulnerable.
A small increase in risk for one of the most deadly types of ovarian cancer was seen in women who took Clomid or Serophene, but Jensen says that this was probably a unforeseen association.
The study appears in the latest issue of the journal BMJ On the web First.
Infertility Increases Ovarian Risk
Studying the impact of fertility drugs and ovarian cancer is complicated by the fact that infertile women and women whove never had children already have a higher than average risk for the cancer, says research Penelope Webb, PhD, of Australias Queensland Institute of Medical Research.
She tells WebMD that one of the greatest strengths of the new study is that researchers went to great lengths to control for that.
In an editorial published with the study, Webb writes that the findings provide further evidence that fertility drugs have no great impact on ovarian cancer risk.
Some women who take fertility drugs will inevitably grow ovarian cancer by chance alone, but widespread evidence suggests that women who use these drugs do not have an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer, she writes.
Earlier findings by the Danish group involving the same cohort of infertile women also suggest no yoke centrally located fertility drug use and an increased risk for breast cancer, thyroid cancer, and malignant melanoma, Jensen says.

posted yesterday on the new (and to me somewhat bizarre) FIND-A-KFC application - which is a dedicated app for helping you stay a(chicken)breast of where the nearest 5 KFC outlets are at any given point in time, given your current location info and all that good stuff.
I dont know why, but yesterday I thought the KFC app might be a sort of one-off. Well not so much. Today I noticed another new one in the App Store called SUBFinder (to find the 5 closest Subway outlets), from the same developers who produced the KFC app, iDelux. After doing a quick search, I also found BK Finder (to find the 5 closest Burger King outlets), also from iDelux.
While meandering around that particular section of the App Store, I saw that there a number of apps which are more general fast food finders So I guess Im still as curious as yesterday about whether there is really an audience for the single-chain finder sort of app. I just cant quite picture that many folks being soooo devoted to BK, or KFC, or whichever chain, that they need a dedicated app for it. I may be way off, but I feel happy enough with general restaurant finders. And I would definitely feel like a general fast-food finder would have me covered for this area, if I felt the need for speed, so to speak.

In today's beauty and skin-health conscious environment, we have the best skin care products and treatments available to date. Microdermabrasion is a perfect example of this advanced cosmetic dermatological technology, and I'm about to tell you all about my personal experience and review of the microdermabrasion procedure.
To be clear on exactly what extent I've experienced the wonder of microderm as I affectionately call it, this is my second round of treatments within the last three years. This should give you some clue that I've had a pretty positive experience with microderm!
The Microdermabrasion Process : Explained
Microdermabrasion is the action performed by a rather small device hooked up to a larger machine, in the hands of a specially certified esthetician or dermatologist, which acts as sort of a sandblaster on your facial skin. That's right, the device shoots out aluminum dioxide crystals, abrading and resurfacing the skin, while almost simultaneously sucking the dead, blasted away skin back up like a vacuum.
The device is somewhat noisy, but not too bad. The settings are adjusted based on the specialist's judgement as to what type of friction your skin type can handle, and what your desired outcome is in different areas of the face. By this I mean the more attention one area needs, the higher the setting, the more forceful the abrasion becomes.
Is There Any Pain Involved?
The answer to this may depend on the individual receiving the treatment. Personally, I had most of my face done with a setting of 3.5, 5 being the highest possible. At this pressure, I only felt a little discomfort to the point of watering eyes when it came around my mouth, and on the fleshier parts of my cheeks. You can ask the specialist to turn the setting down if you're feeling a lot of discomfort.
Some people may have a little thicker skin than others, and be able to tolerate more pressure. Another reason the setting may be higher (more pressure), would be for areas you'd like to be more agressive and see more improvement. Be sure to advise the establishment of these areas and your expectations for improvement. For me personally, I wanted to see marked improvement around my eyes where crows feet branched out, and on my chin, where some acne scarring was still visible. Any good establishment will bend over backwards to make sure you love your results, and keep coming back.
How Many Sessions?
Personally, I would always suggest going with a package of six, if you can afford it. Not only will you enjoy the full benefits the procedure has to offer, but many salons and dermatologist offices offer a discount on these package deals, so you are actually paying less per session. I personally paid $540 for six sessions, a $60 discount from what it would have been if these sessions were purchased separately ($100 per session normally).
After my first series of six, I enjoyed smoother, refinished looking skin for about one to two years, and I'm just now getting treated again, as it seems my skin has returned to a rougher, more uneven state and is in need of another round. I'm on my first of six appointments right now, and only after a few days I'm beginning to see improvement on my chin, as well as the area around my eyes (crow's feet) looks much softer and refined. I'm pretty excited to see what the end result is this second time around.
How Often?
My esthetician recommends spacing the treatments two weeks apart for the best results, and has even given me a home microdermabrasion system that she wants me to use on the off weekends to keep renewing my cell turnover in between sessions. By the way, I think these home microderm kits are pretty awesome too, and I've had some good results with them as well.
Your Skin Right After a Microdermabrasion Treatment
To give you fair warning, you probably will not want to schedule any important social events the day of a microderm treatment. Your skin will most likely look worse than it did before the treatment for one to two days afterwards. What I mean by this is that your pores will appear larger, your skin will be red and irritated, and sometimes even have a patchy appearance. More sensitive individuals can even experience mild swelling.
It is very important that you keep your skin deeply moisturized at all times for the next few days, and even more important to not forget the sunscreen. A non-irritating sunscreen especially for the face would be preferred.
Would I recommend Microderm?
I absolutely would recommend microdermabrasion to anyone wanting to nonsurgically resurface and refine their skin. It is truly a great way to help regain a youthful radiance and healthy glow - minus the fine lines. And, if you feel that microdermabrasion's cost is a little out of your price range, I would encourage you to try a home microdermabrasion kit. They take a little longer to work, and may not produce as dramatic of a result, but over time they can definitely improve your skin's cell turnover, and add a fresh revitalized look, while helping to soften fine lines.
Visit CosmeticsGalore Reviews : Home Microdermabrasion Reviews for more information on the most effective home microdermabrasion kits on the market, from Neutrogena to Oil of Olay, to L'Oreal, we review them all.

We all picture that the digestive system is simply the process that our body practices to reap the profits of the foods we take. Some of us are more familiar about this then others, and that often occurs from the type of training we are open to. For good example. students that took biology will possibly know a lot more than an independent who read a trade about mechanics. There are many things about the digestive system that are just merely amusing to experience. One instance

Did you know that;
In our stomach the nutrient and liquids we swallow in are blended with digestive juices. These are all blended together within the stomach until they are tiny enough to be ingested into our system. The interesting part is that every single day this all brings up to about 11.5 liters which runs through the digestive system. Out of that total amount only approx. 100mls is of no value to us, and ends up being passed through the bowels as feces.

Did you know that;
The stomach has to break down the various types of food we consume. 1 of these being protein. To do the job the stomach releases enzymes and hydrochloric acid. The stomach is so efficient at its chore that between 2-6 hours later it is completely evacuated of its contents and is prepared for the following batch. That's the reason your stomach rumbles at times.

Do you know;
You liver is a food examiner? One of the tasks of the liver is to check the nutrients that are getting to go to our bloodstream. Its job is to cater detoxification by getting rid of the impurities. This aids the digestion operation. That's is why you have to maintain your liver secure.

Did you know that:
That by our not looking after our digestive system the right way we could be wounding our financial economic system?I meant indirectly Digestive troubles cost Approx $fifty billion each year in America, in both direct costs and mortals suffering from these problems who cannot work.

Do you know;
We may be capable to assist control indigestion by the way we cook?100 of enzymes of over several kinds is required to properly disgest the food in our stomach. There are enzymes in our food, but we destroy these when we prepare our food. So because the body requires them it is forced to make them. After a while our body may get weary of doing all this secondary job, so it will go on strike and not develop a competent quantity. Then once that occurs, you better start aiming for the antacids, because you are in for a bout of indigestion. With the germs and pesticides and different things that foods are uncovered to, alas we really dont have a alternative but to thoroughly fix our foods.

and leaving the best for the last

Do you know;
You could support on your head and the food would still get down to your stomach? Now we really recommend that you dont do this. The reason it will get down there, is because the esophagus is about 25 cm., long, and our muscles will compress in waves to force the food down these 25 cm..

These facts that we have just addressed are very engrossing to most people. By hearing to them or studying them, you have offered yourself with some pretty essential wisdom about the digestive system. Imagine that, being able to learn something about the human body without going overwhelmed or worn. Now that is entertaining.

Funding, local control needed
Snow: State needs to stay the course of mental health reform

By QUINTIN ELLISON
Special to the Cherokee Scout

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 8:05 PM CST

"Local control

However, Macon County Commissioner Ronnie Beale, also a Smoky Mountain Center board member, remains concerned that there isn’t adequate local control.

“The system needs to be less complicated and have more local involvement,” Beale said. “Our needs may be different from Rutherford County, which may be different from Wake County. And with local input and local control, you have to have the local funding.”

In a unique move, Macon County took aggressive steps this year to help ensure its involvement in the state’s mental health system. In June, a commission-appointed board, formed at Beale’s request, released a report by the Mental Health Taskforce on Mental Health Services in Macon County....."

These are the Barriers as outlined by the Macon County Mental Health Force Task, summarized in June, 2008:

1. shortage of mental health professionals : (they had 26 mental health professionals show up for a meeting in January, 2008, as associated with their concern; imagine all the others that did not come to the meeting wwwaaaayyyy out in rural Macon county).

2. psychological service programs regional disparities : this is associated w/ the numbers of professional mental health providers. I imagine that it was proclaimed to be a separate category, for instance, in that substance abuse, in particular, seems to be dependent on an organized program which is probably in short demand in this very rural county w/ a spread out populace.

3. cultural diversity: professional mental health providers supposedly have some significant training as associated w/ the matter of cultural diversity. Certainly for psychologists and the American Psychological Association, you cannot pick up a publication without running into matters associated with this issue.

4. income/ poverty: this was supposed to be what the state funded client system and NC mental health reform was about. In that it is not attending to these people, I'm afraid I lay the blame squarely at the feet of SMC LME and its clinical arm, (since McDevitt spilled the 'official' beans as he's leaving anyway)Meridian Behavioral Health, headed by retired employee SMC LME, Joe Ferraro. Meridian contracts w/ SMC LME to provide ALL the state funded clients' mental health care. Sad fact is, they do not. There are many providers, such as myself, who have fought tooth and nail to obtain authorizations and reimbursement (read: get paid) to see state funded clients. That's right: the professional mental health providers who VOLUNTARILY and WILLINGLY went to the houses of the state funded clients for no extra money than the regular pay for a therapy session threw in the towel after years of trying to weave our way thru the morass of the SMC LME authorization trivia. We gave up!

5. need for funding of community based prescription medications : there are several ways to tackle this:

a. Meridian houses a company associated w/ obtaining discounted bulk medications which may or may not be part of Meridian but is frequently used by patients. These are MAILED to the house of the patient.

b. Every medication is associated with a pharmaceutical company. Every pharmaceutical company has a service online wherein one can print out a document which can be sent to the pharmaceutical company so that the patient can receive deeply discounted medications. This must be signed by the prescribing provider.

c. India and Canada have discounted medications to be had, in bulk.

SMC LME's Utilization Review Department, headed by Charles Barry, requires, as per SMC LME non usage of Basic Level Services e.g., therapy/ medication management and instead their usage of Community Support Services (CSS), which is constantly being defunded that mental health providers sit thru 20+ hours of unpaid, unnecessary training in order to offer professional mental health services in accord with their licenses.

If you want to remove the biggest barrier to professional mental health care under the SMC LME catchment area, this matter MUST be tackled. These are some suggestions:

1. Ask NC DHHS's Department of Mental Health, co-directors, Mike Lancaster or Leza Wainwright, to allow SMC LME to release professional mental health providers from having to go thru 20+ hrs of CSS training when they are not offering CSS.

Tip: SMC LME will not allow this to happen. Why not? Because they have a 'special relationship' between themselves and Meridian which effectively blocks professional mental health providers from working w/ state funded clients within SMC LME's catchment area.

Tip: Western Highlands Network saw the need for Basic Level Services (duh)and therefore created a much smaller amount of paperwork.

2. Ask NC DHHS's Department of Mental Health, co-directors, Mike Lancaster orf Leza Wainwright, to make SMC LME offer Basic Level Services.

Tip: this won't happen either. Why? Because by putting all the therapy services into the CSS basket, professional mental health providers outside of Meridian are blocked from working w/ state funded clients. Besides, this, as per mental health reform (law or not, I do not know; I suspect law), the LME's have been allowed to tailor their services as associated with what they perceive to be the demands of the populace of their catchment area. Maybe this will change w/ McDevitt gone. Maybe this is an extension of the 'conflict of interest' waaaayyy beyond any real estate matters associated w/ his wife or the hiring of his daughter by SMC LME. If I were a good reporter, I'd want to know how someone had profited from this 'special relationship' w/ Meridian, headed by the retired SMC employee, Joe Ferraro.

3. OR, the various counties associated and stuck w/ SMC LME could DEMAND that Basic Level Service be made available in order to free up professional mental health providers.

Tip: Guess what will happen. Steve Puckett, PhD, the Clinical Director at SMC LME, will then go over all the Person Centered Plans, as he did w/ mine, in an attempt to keep throwing back the plans so that the state funded clients do not get services and thus Meridian will be protected.

GET THE PICTURE.

classified restaurant job sites or used your local newspapers employment section to help you learn about all open jobs in or around your area. If you have submitted a job application or your resume to any pubs, have you heard back from them yet? If you have yet to receive a call asking to schedule an interview, do not worry, as you should be getting one or more soon.
For many restaurant job seekers, waiting to have a job interview scheduled is the most nerve-wracking part. For others, the interview process is the most difficult to get through. If you are nervous about an upcoming interview or one that you will likely have scheduled soon, the best thing that you can do is prepare. For example, it is advised that you prepare a list of questions to ask all interviewers. These questions can help to improve the flow of a job interview. Another, really useful tip to impress is go to the restaurant and learn the menu in advance.
In addition to helping improve the flow of a job interview, there are a number of other benefits to having a list of questions prepared to ask all restaurant that are in the process of interviewing you. While this may seem a little silly, as you are the one who should be getting interviewed, you will want to ask anyways. Asking questions during a job interview can create a great impression of yourself. For instance, if you ask about the ability to advance within the restaurant, you may end up showing responsibility, initiative, and readiness.
Now that you know the benefits of asking questions during your next interview, you may be curious as to which questions you would ask. One of easiest questions that you can and should ask involves job duties and tasks. You will want to learn as much as you can about the position in which you are applying for. Even if you were already given an overview of the job, you may want to ask additional questions. These questions may include the busiest times of the day, will your workload increase after time, and so forth.
How much you can expect to make is another question that you may want to ask during a job interview, you but you need to be tricky about it. Some employers expect their interview subjects to ask about pay, but others will see that as a downside, as you may only be concerned with picking up a paycheck not becoming a team member. If the supervisor handling your job interview does not state the average salary for the position that you are applying for you may want to ask. However, remember to use the phrase average salary, (including tips) as it tends to sound more professional than pay, money, or even paycheck. This is also the time in which you may want to ask about other employee benefits, including health insurance or vacations.
Another one of the many questions that you will want to ask a restaurant employer during a job interview is if there is room for advancement. If you are interesting in not only increasing your salary, but also increasing your position, you will want to work at a bar that is known for their advancement, as well as their promotions from within. In addition to determining if the company in question can possibly provide you with long-term employment, it can also help to create a good impression of yourself.

As far back as I remember Declan's breathing has sounded very sheep like. There is no other good way to explain it. Our doctor mentioned at his 2 week appointment that his "mucus is still drying up" and not to worry. Well, now that he's almost 3 months and he still sounds the same I decided (with some Nana encouragement) to take him to the doctor.

Turns out he has narrowing of his larynx (it's official name has 23 letters and I can't pronounce it). So of course I have mommy guilt that I didn't get it checked out earlier but it's all a learning process, right? So from here, we see an ENT specialist in early December so they can take a closer peek down his throat and what not. Sounds like a great time for mommy and baby. Not. Anywho, the doctor predicts that our visit with the ENT will go good and that they'll tell us he will just grow out of it. *Fingers crossed*

Poor little sheep.

proven that it is, indeed, the greatest democracy and constitutes an example for all other democracies in the world. President-elect Obama has proven his leadership and his talents to the entire world.
… The special Israel-U.S. relationship is based on shared values and interests and is characterized by ties of close cooperation. Israel and the United States have a common desire to advance peace and stability in the Middle East. We have no doubt that the special relations that prevail between the two countries will continue to strengthen during the Obama administration.
Israeli President Shimon Peres:
It was an American election and a worldwide choice.
… I want to congratulate the newly-elected president: young, fresh, promising, representing a change and introducing change. The changes that I can mention — it is an opportunity to escape the present world crisis and enter into a new era of cooperation, of productive economy and of human solidarity. In a way, it is an end of racism. There is no longer any way that any white man can claim superiority, nor any black person feel discrimination. We are the same people, and this election is a great statement to that effect.
… I also have the utmost respect for the other candidate, John McCain, who fought with great courage and stamina.
… When President Obama was here, he asked me what he can do for Israel. My answer was: Be a great president of the United States of America. If you will be a great president of the United States of America, you will have great promise for Israel as well, and for all of the region and for all of our neighbors. Nobody should look at whose side the president is on — he just has to be on the side of peace. And if he will be on the side of peace, peace will come closer and more possible.
Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat:
Erakat said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas congratulates Obama.
We think that America is united behind the two-state solution and we hope that President-elect Obama will continue the engagement immediately and that he will transfer the vision of two states from a vision to a realistic political track, Erakat said.
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso:
This is a time for a renewed commitment between Europe and the United States of America.
I want to assure Senator Obama of the support of the European Commission and of my personal support in forging this renewed commitment to face together the many challenges ahead of us.
We need to change the current crisis into a new opportunity. We need a new deal for a new world. I sincerely hope that with the leadership of President Obama, the United States of America will join forces with Europe to
drive this new deal. For the benefit of our societies, for the benefit of the world.
European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana:
I think like every election, it means renewal. The ticket on which Barack Obama has run, this ticket for change — change is what we need in the world today. Many problems we have on the table, and I very much hope that well be able to do it together — to find a solution to them together, between the European Union and the United States.
… I would also like to say that it will not be enough to have the European Union and the United States together. The problems of today well need also to incorporate other main players. I think about China, I think about the organization like the African Union and many others.
Therefore, we have a very important day, a historical day and hope very much that the Europeans will be together also to make the utmost of this important moment.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh:
I have great pleasure in conveying my heartiest congratulations on your election as the president of the United States. Your extraordinary journey to the White House will inspire people not only in your country but also around the world.
The people of India and the United States are bound by their shared commitment to freedom, justice, pluralism, individual rights and democracy. These ideals provide a solid bedrock for friendship and strategic partnership between our two nations. We have strong ties between our peoples and I look forward to working with you to realize the enormous potential for cooperation that exists between India and the United States. Our two countries working together to address global issues and challenges will be an important factor for world peace, stability and progress.
Former South African President Nelson Mandela:
Your victory has demonstrated that no person anywhere in the world should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place.
We note and applaud your commitment to supporting the cause of peace and security around the world. We trust that you will also make it the mission of your presidency to combat the scourge of poverty and disease everywhere.
We wish you strength and fortitude in the challenging days and years that lie ahead. We are sure you will ultimately achieve your dream making the United States of America a full partner in a community of nations committed to peace and prosperity for all.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu:
s an epoch-making event filling the whole world with hope that change is possible. It is just tremendous; it is saying to people of color that for them, the sky is the limit.
My heartiest congratulations go to Senator Barack Obama and his partner Senator Joe Biden on their victory.
I also want to congratulate Senator John McCain for his gracious references to Senator Obama in his conceding speech.
We have a new spring in our walk and our shoulders are straighter. It is almost as when Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa in 1994.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy:
In choosing you, its the choice for change, the opening up and the optimism of the American people. While the world is in turmoil and doubt, the American people, loyal to their values that have always been the American identity, forcefully expressed their faith in progress and the future.
This message from the American people resonates well beyond your borders. In the moment where we must face together immense challenges, your election raises immense hope in France, in Europe, and beyond, throughout the world. This open America, united and strong, will show the way anew, with its partners, by the strength of its example and its adherence to its principles.
France and Europe, which have always been connected to the United States by ties of history, values, and friendship, will draw a new energy from this to work with America at preserving world peace and stability.s Deputy Parliament Speaker Mohammad Hossein Abutorabifard:
Obama can change the defeated Bush policies and in so doing can play an important role in the future relations between the U.S. and Asia and the Middle East.
… If the United States takes into consideration the realities of the world and chooses suitable policies, America can play its (proper) role in the relations between the United States and the countries of the region and theworld of Islam.… It seems that this election has prepared the ground for a revision in the Democrats and Obamas future policies of the United States.
Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero:
Zapatero congratulated Obama for his extraordinary election victory and said it opens the road of hope for the world in times of difficulty.
In a telegram sent to Obama, Zapatero wrote, As prime minister of the government of Spain, I let you know of our desire to work together to search for opportunities and solutions to tackle the challenges we face.
I am convinced, as you are, that dialogue and collaboration with governments and multilateral institutions is the best way to find the answers that we need.
Zimbabwe opposition party Movement for Democratic Change:
s victory is a victory of hope, faith, change, a restart, values and dreams which have underpinned our fight as a movement against dictatorship and the neo-fascism of Robert Mugabe.
s victory will hopefully usher in a departure from the politics of polarization, fear, unilateralism and arrogance that has defined the Bush doctrine in the last eight years. Indeed, we hope that Obama will open new avenues of dialogue of new interaction based on respect of all countries irrespective of the size of national budgets or the number of fighter jets owned.
… We are mindful of the difficulties that lie ahead in Obamas path and the fact that this is no El Dorado, a construct that Obama himself acknowledges in his acceptance speech. Indeed it is a task that may take more than his two terms of office. Perhaps the greatest thing we have learnt from this victory is that democracy can work and that there is no alternative to the same.
John McCains speech was particularly humbling, instructive and inspiring. If in Africa, incumbents would accept defeat and would graciously depart from the seat of power, this would be a different continent, and indeed Zimbabwe would be a different place.
For those of us who are still in the trenches, fighting for change and democracy across the entire African continent, this is our victory. One which for now we will savor and celebrate.

One of the things that youre going to find when you are getting started in real estate investing is simple: youre going to want to think about the goals that you have over the long term. While its important to think about what you are doing immediately, while you need to be sure that you have a solid plan for the time while you are getting started, its also important to know whats important for the future.
Youre going to want to think about the fact that there are trends that take place over time; for an example of forward thinking while youre getting started, lets take a quick look at going green. When you are looking at opportunities, one of the things that youll want to think about is how much effort it could take to green up the place, because thats going to have an impact on the sales that you make.
Its this type of forward thinking that is going to help to assure your success as a real estate investor; by thinking about the future, youll find that its easier to pick out properties that are worth buying and to identify the best way to sell the properties that you buy. When youre getting started, these points will also way in on the way that you evaluate deals.
Thinking about the big picture, in other words, is something thats going to help you to reach your goals - and thats a great thing to focus on while youre getting started.
